HATE ME IF YOU MUST...
but i hate, hate, hate the trend of putting 4" flowers on baby girls' heads. it just looks ridiculous. i came across a picture of a baby girl face down with a gargantuan flower on her head. the caption read "summer didn't feel well" i didn't buy it. i just think she couldn't hold her head up any more. i really don't feel too bad posting this because i know that the mothers who put these things on their daughters' heads probably think that my "gluing" little bows to Scout's head looks pretty lame, too. so i suppose we'll each enjoy our own form of silly accessorizing.

HOW'S IT GOING?
the great junk out of 2009 is going quite well. truthfully, it's not super hard to decline the foods i've sworn off of, BUT i do find myself thinking of the yummy-ness i'll be partaking of come labor day. won't lie, pretty excited for a little chocolate/pb combination. mmm mmm good.

STARTING AGAIN.
after a failed attempt and then an illness (first H and then myself) we'll be taking up the potty-training torch again next week. if you have ANY tips on this subject, feel free to post them. i feel like i'm entering a world of madness and am a wee bit afraid we'll have a repeat situation of "i'll do it when i want to..." this is Hayden after all. the kid who couldn't have cared less that he didn't motate until twelve months and didn't walk until 19. sure he knows his alphabet and the sounds each letter makes, but will he see fit to potty in the potty? who knows. all prayers and offerings will be accepted.

Little S.
she's become a roller. she rolls all over the place and pretty much refuses to stay on her back which makes diaper changing a bit of a challenge. she thinks her big bro is just about the coolest person in the world and absolutely lights up when he walks in. still chatting. still smiling. still sleeps and eats well. gotta love that in a kid.

Here We Go Again.
it's hunting season. again. enough said.

Jules, Jules...I laughed out loud at your gian head bow story. I saw a picture of the most ridiculous one yet...I don't think I could even say the baby's head.
And I have no words to offer on potty training because you are probably starting when you are supposed to, as opposed to me, who started very late. I waited until my boys were "ready" (meaning they were showing the initiative) to avoid a power struggle. I guess they were a little old. I look back and think, "Gross! I was changing a 3-year old's diaper?!?!?" But, yes, I was. Neither were potty trained until just after 3. Will I do the same with McKay? Who knows.

I totally agree with the head flowers. We will not be participating in the trend. I saw one the other day that looked like it could have been a hat for the poor girl. It was as big as her head.

As for the potty training, you could try some of the ideas in Diaper Free Baby, by Christine Gross-Loh. (I got it from the library.) It's for dealing with younger kids. We actually started with Neil at about 3 weeks, but dropped the ball when I went back to work. I think for the next one I'm going to try harder from day one. People may think I'm insane, but cloth diapering and "elimination communication" (funny name, I know) have saved us a lot of money over the last year. The concept isn't for everyone, but it may interest you to know about some of the tactics. There's also a support group for it that meets at the Salt Lake library once a month.

Honestly Jules this is what I found. We started in Feb and had some success but then he reverted. Was off and on with it but he was never interested. Today was a day of joy. Logan got up went on the potty and has gone at least 9 times and it is 4. He was dry when he got up from his nap even. We will see how day 2 goes but honestly it is something they have to want not just us.:(

Amen about the flowers! To each his own, I guess, but I don't like them, they look silly. Keep up with the gluing - I think it's a much better option. (Since I know it matters what I think. Ha ha.)

Flowers.
I am so happy to read your post and so many comments about the flowers. I too hate this trend. A tiny delicate flower, no bigger than the wee one's ear is appropriate, anything else looks completely ridiculous.
Potty Training.
Have trained 3 boys, I am no expert and each kid has been different, here is what I can tell you, a little bit from each of my experiences. I personally think boys should be done before they are three. But close to 2 is too young. With my oldest I tried to soon and traumatized him, he was scared of the potty. And if your little guy can’t get himself on the toilet or pull up his own pants, potty training isn’t a whole lot less work than diaper changing for you. What finally worked after we took a few months off was the “naked” weekend. That is as many days in a row where the trainee never leaves the house and doesn’t wear anything until he figures it out. We scheduled this over a holiday weekend, found subs for church callings and no one left until we felt comfortable that we could go out without diapers and he would be fine. It took three days. I never tried this with a girl, but it worked in 3 days for all 3 of my boys. The thing about a boy is that they can feel the signal to go so much better when it isn’t tucked away warmly in a pull up, diaper or underwear. Also, I think pull-ups are a total waste or money. Kids know that is a diaper between their legs and will wet in it just the same a real diaper.
Good Luck.
