J: You know, Hayden. Diapers are very expensive. Especially when we have to buy them for two children.
H: Diapers aren't expensive.
Hayden- 1

J: Hayden diapers are really only for babies, not for big boys like you.
H: Mom, diapers are for babies and Haydens.

reading a post on my cousin's blog reminded me of something.
for the past two, possibly three years... i've had the goal to run a 5k in the summer. i think i may have even mentioned it in this blog at some point, but, as i told my cousin, my problem is i really don't like running. i feel like it's one of those things that i should enjoy, however, and if i don't i should at least pretend i do.
i had similar feelings when i was single and a date or any guy, really, would ask what i did for fun. this question would come up and my palms would sweat, my mind would race and i would try to think of something that would sound interesting and more importantly, active. true confessions: i am not an inherently active individual. i really prefer to be inactive. saying that out loud, however, especially to a potential suitor, really makes me seem like a lump. which i am not. --well, i may be a bit lumpy, but... if i were to answer the question honestly of what i like to do it would be: reading (first and foremost!), dancing --i only wish it wasn't inappropriate for a married thirty-something with 2 kids to go out with the girls to shake our booties. sadly, though, it is--watching movies, checking out a good play, hanging out with good people and having some seriously good conversation and good laughs. these are not bad things to like to do, but somehow as a dating individual i just didn't feel that this was what most guys were looking for. but blah, blah, blah.
where was i going with that?...ah, yes, running. i still don't like running, but i do feel like it's a bit of a right of passage. sort of like natural childbirth (only worse). i think i'd like to earn that right and with that said i set my goal, again, to run a 5k in august. yes, august. that is good and far away. i can make that goal. maybe ade will run one with me...
you in? i know that's easy peasy but for me it's like climbing a mountain. mount everest, even (and don't ever expect to see that goal set here).

Hayden's first fish caught while ice fishing with his proud papa. Apparently when B. was dragging H. back to the car on the sled H. would not allow B. to put the fish anywhere but on his lap. That's my boy.
there is a positive side to having a two year old. they often say the funniest and cutest things. here are a few things to recently come out of h's mouth.
* "i have a great idea. let's play cards." (spoken to his father on sunday morning. this is one of hayden's favorite phrases. if you suggest something he'll often respond with "what a great idea!"
* "good night, scouters. i'll see you when the sun wakes up."
* "i'm listening, " he says as he puts on my head phones, "hey. i don't hear anything."
"that's because they're not plugged in, " i tell him.
he sits down next to the door jam and plugs it into a screw in the hinge, "now i'm listening..." he then starts to sing I Am a Child of God.--thank you nursery.

2009, i bid thee farewell.
best book(s) i read in 2009:
* The Book Thief
* The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
best movie i saw in 2009:
* Julie and Julia (the story of my MIL and me. haha. i kid--good movie though)
best month in 2009:
* march. by far. got myself a new daughter. goood, good times.
best thing(s) i did for myself:
* started walking in the mornings with a neighbor
* started doing a freezer meal exchange w/ friends
* participated in a rotating play group
* got a babysitter to come over every wednesday during december so i could christmas shop on my own
welcome 2010.
resolutions:
* be more of a doer.
* laundry and cleaning the house. as in staying caught up on such things.
* regaining my spiritual self. pretty sure i lost it somewhere in '09.
* finding a way to do what i love. be involved in theatrical-ness, which will start with the roadshow. i'm in charge this year. small time, you say? yes, well, we must all start somewhere.
* being the spouse i would like to have. that sounds kinda weird, i suppose. this is not to say that B is not the kind of spouse i would like to have. it IS to say that i have not been the kind of spouse i would like to have. pretty sure i should change this.
* when i have an idea...DO IT!!!
* work on my crafty side.
